*Whew* Wow! Look at all this dust and junk in here. It’s like nobody’s been around in months! I’m glad I got back before nature started to take over!

So sorry I’ve been away! I promise it’s not just you, dear Internet. I’ve been ignoring everybody. Things have been, uh, a little busy since the holidays.

Tiffany and I didn’t make any New Year’s Resolutions this year, public or private, but that doesn’t mean that 2015 doesn’t already have a theme. This year’s theme seems to be working out to be Things I should have done years ago.

Because this year, I’m going back to school.

What on Earth was I thinking?

For a number of years, I’ve been trying to figure out what’s next, career wise, life wise, etc. Lots of my friends and family have weighed in on this, and the suggestions have varied from the responsible (get a freakin’ hobby already!) to the predictable (have freakin’ kids already!) to the intriguing (just move to freakin’ Europe already!) to the bizarre (learn to freakin’ blow glass already!).

While I would love to move to Europe to make a hobby out of glassblowing, I think I’m a little too practical for that.

A lot of folks had the suggestion that I go back to school. Tiff’s been trying to get me to do this for a few years now by dropping little hints like printing out the GRE study guide and practice exams and leaving them on my desk (that was about 500 pages).

More recently our cousin Heather (the same one who joined us in Sicily last year) has also been waving the school flag, adding even more fuel to that fire. So towards the end of last year, I took the GRE, applied to schools, and got accepted.

People have been wondering if I’ve gone crazy, because all I ever do anymore is write in strange symbols…

And in January what was left of my free time fizzled away into nothingness.

I’m still working full time, so basically when I’m not sleeping, eating or driving, I’m working on work stuff or school stuff. I’ve become possibly the least fun person who’s ever existed.

…and mumble half-intelligible song lyrics.

I was reflecting on this some Friday night recently as I was grilling up dinner, holding what was my third iced coffee of the evening. This used to be my third Gin & Tonic of the evening, I realized. And for a moment, I was sad.

The only thing I did to prep for this post was refill my coffee.

But as I thought about it more, I found that though my cocktail consumption has gone down markedly, I’m so much happier having a long-term plan again. For the next two years, I am going to school. Let’s do this.

So while the posting will definitely slow down around here, I do still have things to write about. Tiffany and I went on a nice New Year’s “last hurrah” trip to Denmark that I haven’t shared yet, so as time allows I’ll get back to what makes this blog so much fun to write.

In the meantime, I’m going to go refill my coffee.

In keeping with the tradition around here surrounding boring posts, here’s a picture of my cute study partner.

She’s totally a communications major, though she’ll never tell you that.
